Accounting and Tax Practices

Accounting and Tax Applications program is a two-year program offered by Gedik Vocational School of Higher Education. It was established in the 2011-2012 academic year, and the language of instruction is Turkish. Students who successfully complete the 120 ECTS credits of compulsory and elective courses over four semesters and fulfill their internships will graduate.

Goal

The aim of the program is to equip students with the necessary skills to comprehend accounting functions in businesses, ensure the healthy and reliable processing of accounting transactions, and provide them with the abilities to understand and adapt to accounting and tax practices, requirements, and innovations prevalent in the business world. The program aims to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, skilled, enterprising, analytical thinkers, and capable of teamwork and collaboration, experts in writing techniques, and creative individuals in campaign processes. Our graduates will become sought-after communication professionals in both the private sector and public institutions.

Media and communication specialists need to closely follow and effectively utilize communication technologies. They should be well-organized, enterprising, active, and analytical, capable of teamwork and collaboration, expert in writing techniques, and creative in campaign processes. The program endeavors to instill all these qualifications in its students, who will then serve as the sought-after experts in their respective institutions and present them in the best possible way.

In addition, we aim to raise individuals who are respectful of historical and societal values, socially responsible, possess ethical awareness in both societal and professional contexts, adopt lifelong learning as a principle, follow advancements in science and technology, constantly renew themselves, and acquire practical application skills related to their profession by closely monitoring the production and service sectors while being conscious of occupational safety, worker health, and environmental protection.

Graduates who successfully complete the Accounting and Tax Applications Associate Degree Program work as assistant personnel in the accounting, finance, and auditing units of large corporations, as well as in the offices of financial advisors and certified public accountants. They are employed in banks, insurance companies, tourism, construction, and industrial enterprises as accounting staff.

Possible Transfer Programs

Graduates have the opportunity to transfer to various universities’ four-year undergraduate programs based on the scores they receive in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and the quota status of the universities. On the other hand, those who complete their four-year education at a faculty and fulfill other legal requirements have the opportunity to obtain the title of “Independent Accountant and Financial Advisor.”

The purposes of the Accounting and Tax Applications program are as follows:

  • To learn financial accounting principles and practically apply periodical and year-end transactions related to financial accounting.
  • To comprehend the basic concepts, objectives, and relations of the enterprise with the environment, the enterprise functions, and the relations between these functions, and to provide communication knowledge and skills.
  • To be familiar with the Turkish legal system and commercial regulations applicable to the enterprise.
  • To recognize and utilize documents commonly used in commercial life.
  • To have a solid understanding of basic economic principles and concepts.
  • To perform social security procedures and tax calculations, process accounting documents, and prepare declarations.
  • To understand and analyze cost and financial information, prepare financial statements, and interpret and analyze them in a computer environment.
  • To be capable of performing calculation procedures in the professional and commercial field.
  • To learn and skillfully use accounting programs in a computer environment.
  • To train graduates who have knowledge about obtaining and processing numerical data.

Program Objectives

The aim of the Accounting and Tax Applications program is to train qualified human resources educated in the field of accounting, thereby raising the quality values of the accounting profession and meeting the need for intermediate staff in the profession.

To enhance the career prospects of our students, those who succeed in the Computerized Accounting courses they will take in the 2nd semester are awarded the “ETA Education Certificate” and “Micro Specialization Certificate” for free.
