Child Development

Istanbul Gedik University Gedik Vocational School offers a 2-year Child Development Program. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates receive a Vocational High School Diploma from Istanbul Gedik University Gedik Vocational School.

In line with the changing needs of science, technology, education, and healthcare, the aim is to train child development professionals who provide support to the healthy/special needs children and adolescents aged 0-18, enlighten families and the community about the child’s healthy development and education, possess caregiving, protection, education, and research skills, and meet the intermediate workforce needs in the field.

Our mission is to train child development professionals who can support the development and education of healthy/special needs children and adolescents aged 0-18, in line with the changing needs of science, technology, education, and healthcare. These professionals will enlighten families and the community about the child’s healthy development and education, possess caregiving, protection, education, and research skills, and meet the intermediate workforce needs in the field.

Our vision is to become a department that produces creative, secure, socially aware child development professionals who can provide care and education services and are primarily preferred in the national and international health and education sectors.

The aim is to train child development professionals who:

  • Can apply advanced theoretical and practical knowledge/skills in the fields of care and education for children.
  • Can follow scientific research, educational technologies, and policies that guide child development, care, health, and education.
  • Can identify and support the generation of solutions for problems in the field of child development and education.
  • Understand the importance of healthy development and education of children and adolescents, who will shape the country’s future.
  • Are aware of their professional responsibilities and committed to ethical values.
  • Are open to innovative thinking, conscious of values, meticulous, creative, and possess critical thinking skills.
  • Embrace lifelong learning and continuously improve themselves in their professional field.
  • Can effectively communicate in both written and oral forms.

  • Private special education and rehabilitation centers as administrators, teachers, and teacher assistants.
  • Private nurseries and preschools as administrators, teachers, and teacher assistants.
  • Under the Ministry of National Education, they can work as master instructors in preschools and early education classes.
  • In maternal and child health centers, residential treatment institutions, and social services and child protection agencies, they can work as caregiver mothers.
  • In the children’s publications and toy industries, they can work as designers.
  • In the Prime Ministry’s Family Research Institution, Directorate of Disabled Affairs, State Planning Organization, Social Services and Child Protection Agency children’s homes, Family Counseling Centers, and foster homes.
  • In the Ministry of Health’s Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning Centers and hospitals.
  • In children’s hospitals and hospital schools, as well as in the children’s courts under the Ministry of Justice and educational homes.
  • They can be involved in the preparation and execution of radio and television programs for children and youth, including educational programs.
  • They can work in children’s theaters and children’s films.
  • They can be involved in the preparation of publications such as books, magazines, and newspapers targeted at children.
  • They can participate in various child development-related projects.

*Moreover, graduates may benefit from the “Regulation on Vertical Transfer to Bachelor’s Programs for Vocational School Graduates and Open Education Associate Degree Graduates” and, if there are available quotas in related fields, they can gain the right to enroll in bachelor’s programs such as “Child Development, Child Health and Development, Preschool Teaching” through a vertical transfer exam.
