RECYCLING WITH MUSIC PROJECT
Within the scope of the Community Service Applications course, students from Istanbul Gedik University’s Child Development Program brought a new perspective to recycling projects. Through the project, recycling materials were transformed into rhythm, rather than being discarded as waste.
Under the guidance of Res. Assist. İrem ALTAN AKSU, the project was carried out for 10 weeks, and children’s choirs were formed with the participation of 5 different classes through collaboration with Kopuzlar Preschool.
After the project, the project team received feedback from the children, stating that the children enjoyed making instruments from recyclable materials, found the activities exciting, and eagerly anticipated the final concert.
Throughout the project, children had a fun time, raised awareness about sustainability, and learned that recyclable materials can be repurposed instead of being treated as trash, through experiential learning.

The second-year students of Child Development said “From Garden to School” and revitalized their school garden together with the students of Marmara Deha Preschool
Wanting to draw attention to the importance of plants and soil, the Child Development students, along with the preschool students, worked together for 10 weeks to revive their school’s garden.
As part of the project, the wild weeds in the garden were first cleaned and prepared for hoeing by the project team. Then, cabbage and arugula seeds were planted together with the students. In the following weeks, unused tires and plastic bottles were recycled and repurposed. The tires were colored together with the students and turned into flower pots for the garden. Violet flowers were planted in the plastic bottles and hung in the garden. The walls and fences of the garden were painted, and the project was concluded.
As a result of participating in the project, the students started growing flowers at their homes, and they eagerly observed the growth of the plants in the garden each week. They gained awareness about the importance of soil and plants, and the goals set in the project were achieved.
On December 27, 2022, during the THU (Community Service Applications) Project Presentations meeting at Gedik Vocational School conference hall, the Project Coordinator Res. Assist. İrem Altan Aksu presented Thank You Certificates to the project team.
We would like to thank Marmara Deha Preschool for their support in this project.
