Academic Integrity
Students and academicians are expected to produce and submit their own work, properly acknowledge the ideas and contributions of others, and never misrepresent any portion of external content as original. Academic dishonesty such as plagiarism—whether by copying exact words without citation or paraphrasing without proper attribution—undermines the educational process. Using purchased or otherwise obtained work from external sources also violates these standards. Any breach of academic integrity is taken seriously and may result in consequences such as failing grades on assignments or exams, disciplinary actions, or mandatory training programs on research ethics. Every case is reviewed individually, ensuring fair and appropriate outcomes based on the nature and severity of the misconduct.
AI Policy
Although AI-powered applications can offer valuable support—such as providing editorial guidance, suggesting research materials, or prompting fresh ideas—students must not rely on them to complete assignments in place of their reasoning and creativity. AI should be regarded as a tool that enhances learning rather than replaces the intellectual effort essential to academic work. Submitting AI-generated text as original work, whether in writing tasks or any other assignment, constitutes a serious violation of academic standards. Exams or quizzes must be taken without unauthorized AI assistance; any use of such tools is prohibited unless explicitly allowed by the instructor. Violations of these rules will be treated as academic misconduct, resulting in sanctions that may include the assignment of a failing grade or additional disciplinary measures according to Gedik University regulations.
At Gedik University SFL, we allow the responsible use of AI tools in the following ways:
- Grammar and Style Checks
Auto-correction and editing tools may be used for self-editing, provided the student’s final work remains. - Research Support
AI can help locate reputable sources or suggest references, but students must critically evaluate all content and cite any sources properly. - Brainstorming and Outline Development
AI tools may assist in generating ideas; however, each student is responsible for transforming these ideas into a coherent, original argument.
At Gedik University SFL, we do not allow:
- Submitting AI-Generated Text as Original Work
Copying responses generated by tools like ChatGPT without significant modification or personal input is considered plagiarism. - AI-Completed Assignments
Tasks requiring individual analysis, personal insight, or creative thought must not be fully delegated to AI. - Unauthorized Use in Exams
Using AI in tests, quizzes, or any high-stakes assessments is strictly prohibited unless explicitly stated otherwise, as it undermines academic integrity.
