General Information About the Department 

 The Digital Game Design Department is an interdisciplinary department that aims to train competent designers who will take part in the game industry, which is developing more and more every day with new technology products, and who will prepare and present games for the service of users / game lovers with creativity. The Digital Game Design Department, which will foster and combine the imagination of students with the latest technologies to create games and experiences, is a department that is sorely lacking in the computer game industry and digital entertainment environment. The Digital Game Design Department is a four-year undergraduate department established in 2023, affiliated to İstanbul Gedik University, Faculty of Architecture and Design. Our department accepts students with SAY score type. The capacity of the department is 30 students, of whom 5 students are accepted with a full scholarship and 25 students are accepted with a 50% scholarship. 

 

Aims of the Department 

 The objective of the department is to educate students to become designers capable of working in various fields, such as graphic design, game design, animation and character design, game programming, experience design, gamification, game production, game writing, simulation and modeling, user interface design, storytelling, and narrative architecture, within national and international organizations, as well as in media, advertising, film production, sound production, animation and modeling, digital media, digital arts, digital entertainment, and computer game industry sectors. The Digital Game Design Department aims to meet the demand for strong designers in the gaming industry concerning critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, high technological infrastructure, creativity and innovative projects. 

 The Digital Game Design Department has become one of the increasingly popular sectors among the creative industries and entertainment world all over the world. In order to follow the developments in the field of industry and technology worldwide in our country, to produce works that can contribute to the world of game design in the global sense and to create value in the global competitive environment, innovative, creative, qualified and pioneering game designers who can advance the field further are needed. 

 Additionally, digital game design is an interdisciplinary field that brings together various disciplines such as programming, visual design, storytelling, and psychology. Therefore, it is an ideal choice for students with various skills. Graduates will be able to work as art managers and professional designers who can assume responsibilities related to digital design and visual communication, graphic design within corporate companies and non-governmental organizations. 

 While educating our students, another aim is to enhance their personal design skills, critical and analytical thinking abilities, as well as develop their visual language. We encourage them to actively participate in student exchange programs worldwide, motivating them to pursue their desired education and projects. It is also aimed to develop the sense of social responsibility, awareness and empathy of our students who can work in many areas such as digital design, game design, animation and character design, game programming. 

 

The Education Period 

 In the Digital Game Design Department, a 4-year (8-semester) undergraduate education is provided. For students to graduate, they must complete 240 ECTS rights and fulfil the graduation requirements of their universities. Starting from the 3rd year, they have the opportunity to specialize in their desired area by selecting elective courses. There are no compulsory internships for the students. 

 Undergraduate and vertical transfer opportunities are offered to the students of the department. International student exchange programs (Erasmus etc.) are also offered. In addition, high-achieving students can pursue a Double Major or Minor degree. 

 

Working Areas of Graduates 

 Graduates of the Digital Game Design Department can work in game programming, experience design, gamification, game production, game writing positions in related sectors and companies. The digital game design sector seeks graduates who hace the ability to shape future projects with their creative ideas. Graduates who are able to

  • Work with animation and modelling departments,
  • Design the missions to be found in the game and create the game concept with puzzles, 
  • Collaborate with sound engineers and artists to achieve the wanted visual and audio format, 
  • Have a good knowledge of programming, know how to use game engines such as UDK, Unity, CryEngine and have advanced programming languages can provide employment in the sector.
