  • The Department of Child Development, in collaboration with the Tohum Autism Foundation Continuous Education Unit Coordinator Nihal Orta, organized a seminar.

During the seminar hosted by the Department of Child Development and moderated by Research Assistant Rabia Cemre Arslan, we welcomed Ms. Nihal Orta, the Coordinator of the Tohum Autism Foundation Continuous Education Unit. In the seminar titled “Recommendations for Families of Autistic Children and Problematic Behaviors,” Ms. Orta shared his experiences with families and conveyed intervention suggestions with interest and attention. Families of special children from the Gedik Inclusive Life Research and Application Center and students from our university were also among the attendees.

Our event, addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of “Reducing Inequalities,” concluded with ideas for future activities from Ms. Orta and our department.

  • Within our university, we organized an event for Disabilities Week at the Inclusive Life Research and Application Center in collaboration with the Faculty of Health Sciences departments, the Child Development Program, and the Psychology Department.

In our event, which featured various activities and esteemed guests, the theme for the Department of Child Development was ‘Colors.’ We conveyed the idea that special children bring color to our lives and that life becomes special and beautiful with them through games, art, and drama activities. We extend our gratitude to the valuable mothers, dear children, and organizing professors for their contributions.

Our professor shared the characteristics of vaccines that are of great importance in preventing childhood diseases and discussed their significance with our students. With the motto ‘Get vaccinated, be happy,’ she conveyed valuable information about Vaccination Week and its importance.

  • The 2209-A project supported by TÜBİTAK, conducted under the supervision of Lecturer Nefise Özok Bulut with the participation of Enise Zeynep Arslan and Zeynep Çağla Duruakan, was presented as an oral presentation at the International Early Childhood Education Congress.

The TÜBİTAK-supported 2209-A project conducted by fourth-year students Yevşer Aleyna DEMİRCAN and Şehriban DEMİRHAN from Istanbul Gedik University’s Department of Child Development, under the supervision of Instructor Nefise ÖZOK BULUT, was presented as an oral presentation at the International Early Childhood Education Congress held in Eskişehir.

  • We Said ‘Where There’s Love, There’s No Barrier’

In a collaborative event between our Child Development Club, other clubs within the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Istanbul Gedik University’s Inclusive Life Center, we created one of the most special gatherings of love. On December 5, 2022, at Istanbul Gedik University’s Inclusive Life Center, our club carried out activities under the motto ‘Let’s hold hands and overcome barriers,’ led by Lecturer Nefise ÖZOK BULUT. We provided enjoyable moments for our special children by engaging in sensory development boxes, making maracas, and hand printing activities. We extend our gratitude to our esteemed instructor and club students for an event where love is the most essential value and barriers are overcome with love.

 

  • CHILD DEVELOPMENT CLUB ORGANIZED BOOK DONATION EVENT

Our Child Development Club within the Department of Child Development organized a book donation campaign for preschool children at Kartal, Vocational School, and Halil Kaya Gedik campuses. With the support of our professors and students, the collected books were gifted to the little children at Beykoz Kaynarca Preschool. We thank the department students who organized the event for preschool children and everyone who supported it, and we hope that every child grows up with a love for books.

  • A SEMINAR ON ‘CHILD NEGLECT AND ABUSE’ WAS HELD

Today, we had the honor of hosting Mr. Serkan ÇITLAK from the Koruncuk Foundation, who delivered a seminar on the topic of ‘Child Neglect and Abuse.’ We extend our gratitude to Mr. Serkan ÇITLAK for enlightening us on this crucial and sensitive subject. We also thank our esteemed professors and fellow students for their participation.

g Anıtkabir, the resting place of our founder Atatürk.

  • The Child Development Club within the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Department of Child Development celebrated the 99th anniversary of our Republic with enthusiasm and pride. Our students displayed artworks and letters from children aged 3 to 18 at the Halil Kaya Gedik Campus, sharing the love for the Republic that resides in the hearts of the young children who wrote letters and poems to our founding leader.
  • Our students from the Department of Child Development, Oktay ÖZCAN and Merve YAKUT, together with İlknur Aleyna AYYILDIZ from the Faculty of Law, have conducted an interview titled ‘Children’s Rights.’ The conducted interview has been presented to the listeners as a podcast on Radyo Gedik.

 

  • The students from the Department of Child Development, Kübra YİĞİT and Sümeyye BOLAT, arranged an interview on an important topic at Radyo Gedik. Our students presented their study titled ‘The Effects of War and Migration on Child Development’ to the listeners on Radyo Gedik. They also had Dr. Assistant Professor Özlem IŞIL as a guest, who answered the students’ questions as a healthcare professional.

 

  • Dr. Child Development Specialist Yasemin Yılmazer was a guest at the Career Days event organized by the Department of Child Development. She enlightened students from Child Development and other departments of our university with a seminar on the topic ‘Hospitals and Child Development Professionals.’ We thank her for her contributions.

 

  • The ‘Children Walking in the Shadow of Childhood’ Club within the Child Development department hosted Special Education Teacher Rahime Seper. Seper informed our students with a seminar titled ‘Specific Learning Difficulties.’ Providing information about learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia, Seper also introduced some diagnostic tools and materials used in the assessment of special children. We thank her for her visit and the information she provided.
  • Our esteemed professor from the Department of Child Development at Gülhane Faculty of Health Sciences didn’t turn down our invitation to the career days event organized for our students. Mr/Ms. Elibol provided a seminar on ‘Developmental Parenting: Child Development in the 21st Century’ to our students, where they discussed the stages of developmental parenting and shared the latest research. We wholeheartedly thank them for enlightening us with their knowledge and for connecting with our students.

 

  • Ms. Şirin, as part of an extracurricular activity organized by our university’s ‘Children Walking in the Shadows’ (ÇOGÖY) club, met with our students. During their talk, Şirin discussed ‘Strategies for Dealing with Problematic Behaviors in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder,’ and then elaborated on the ‘Steps for Creating a Home Program’ for children diagnosed with autism. The event, attentively listened to by our students, concluded with our guest’s recommendations for programs involving children with autism and comments from participants. We extend our heartfelt thanks to them for enlightening us with their valuable contributions.
