Head Of Department’s Message

Nutrition and Dietetics is a vital field within the health sciences that aims to protect and promote the health of individuals and communities, enhance quality of life, prevent disease, and support treatment processes in accordance with evidence-based principles of nutrition. Today, the increasingly recognized role of healthy nutrition in both preventive and therapeutic healthcare further reinforces the significance of the dietetics profession.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Istanbul Gedik University, admitted its first cohort of students in the 2018–2019 academic year. Since then, we have been committed not only to equipping our students with a strong foundation of scientific knowledge but also to providing an educational environment that prepares them comprehensively for professional practice.

Our graduates have diverse career opportunities and may work in public and private hospitals, community health centers, nutrition and dietetic counseling centers, institutions providing food and nutrition services, schools, nursing homes, sports clubs, wellness centers, and the food industry. Graduates who wish to pursue an academic career may continue their education at the postgraduate level and contribute to the field through teaching and research.

In our Department, we place particular emphasis on integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience. We aim to enable our students to assess the nutritional needs of individuals across different age groups and health conditions and to develop evidence-based, feasible, and effective solutions to nutrition-related challenges. Accordingly, practical courses and professional placements conducted in a variety of institutions constitute an integral component of our educational program.

As a result of our continuous efforts to enhance the quality of education, our Bachelor’s Program in Nutrition and Dietetics was accredited in 2025 by AHPGS, an international accreditation agency. This significant achievement demonstrates that our educational program meets international quality standards while also reflecting our strong commitment to continuous development and quality improvement.

Our primary objective is to educate dietitians who possess a strong foundation of professional knowledge, well-developed practical competencies, and a commitment to lifelong learning and continuous professional development. We aspire for our students to graduate as healthcare professionals who keep abreast of scientific advances and emerging technologies, demonstrate critical thinking skills, contribute to and value the Sustainable Development Goals, adhere to ethical principles, and act with a strong awareness of their professional responsibilities.

With our experienced academic staff, we are dedicated to supporting our students throughout their education by sharing our knowledge and expertise and fostering their academic and professional development, with the ultimate goal of preparing them to become highly competent dietitians.
