‘Mimar Sinan Week Events: SKETCH COMPETITION-4’ Works of the Republic Period

Architecture in Turkey has gone through a major transformation and development process during and after the Republic period. During this period, architecture not only built physical structures but also became an expression of national identity and modernization. The architectural heritage of the Republic period played an important role not only in terms of architecture but also in social, cultural and political contexts. The competition aims to provide a platform for the preservation, promotion and transfer of the architectural heritage of the Republic period to future generations. Mimar Sinan, who has written his name in world history with his works, has also become a transcendent representation that encompasses our past architectural heritage and inspires modern times by handling the architecture of his period with a superior attitude and taking it to a universal level. For this reason, we wanted to evaluate the sketch competition that we organize every year within the scope of Mimar Sinan Week activities, which includes April 9 Architects’ Day, with the 100th Anniversary of the Republic event this year. In this context, “Mimar Sinan Week Activities: SKETCH COMPETITION-4” opens the works of the Republic period to interpretation through the productive thinking tool of sketches.
