1st National Addiction Research Symposium was organized at Istanbul Gedik University
The 1st National Addiction Research Symposium organized by Istanbul Gedik University was held between 10-12 March 2025 with the intense participation of academics, experts and students. The opening speeches were of great importance as in academic events. The opening speeches of the symposium were made by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kesik, Rector of Istanbul Gedik University, Mehmet Zafer Akdemir, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Prof. Dr. Birol Özkalp, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Akçay Balcı, Executive Director of the Symposium Organizing Committee. In the opening speeches, the importance of the fight against addiction was emphasized and the contributions of such scientific activities to the society were emphasized.
Well-known clinical psychologist Dr. Tuna Tüner focused on behavioral addiction in her opening speech at the symposium. In his speech, he underlined the need to raise awareness of individuals against technology, gaming, social media and other modern addictions and made important points on the psychological effects of such addictions.
During the symposium, different academic sessions were organized and participants had the opportunity to learn about the latest research and approaches to addiction. In addition, special panels were held on behavioral addiction and substance addiction. In the panels, psychological, social and physiological aspects of addictions were discussed in detail.
The symposium, which is of great importance for the scientific world and society, aimed to raise awareness on addiction and enable experts to share their work in this field.
