After the National Anthem, Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kesik gave a speech on the meaning and importance of the day. Ahmet Kesik said that “ Great Leader Veteran Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a leader who combined his own life with the future of his nation. Today, from 7 to 70, we all commemorate him with respect and gratitude. The reason for this is not only that Atatürk was the leader of our War of Independence and the founder of our Republic. He also represents continuous progress, improvement and development. Atatürk aimed to “rise above the level of contemporary civilization”.
In order to achieve this goal, we, as Istanbul Gedik University, are doing our part with all our might. We are trying to do what is the duty of an educational institution that has adopted the values of the Republic. Commemorating and keeping Atatürk alive is possible by putting his ideals into practice.
I promise to do my part as an educator and administrator. As I end my words, I commemorate the great leader with respect and mercy, and pay my respects to all of you. Özgür Billur, Deputy Director of Atatürk’s Principles and Revolution History Application and Research Center, In his speech, he emphasized the universal aspect of Atatürk.
Billur said, “It is an unprecedented event to be able to say ‘Peace at home, peace in the world’ and work for it at a time when the winds of war are blowing all over the world.”. He said that Atatürk’s ideas and ideals were a light not only for the Turkish nation, but for all humanity.
