OPENING CEREMONY OF OUR VIRTUAL ARC PROJECT WAS HELD

The opening of the Virtual Ark Project, which supported under the financial support program of Istanbul Development Agency which emerged with the aim of raising a qualified workforce by bringing together innovative technologies (AR, VR, Robotics, Remote Access Lab.) in vocational and technical education was held.

Ahmet Kesik , Rector of Istanbul Gedik University, said that “In the industrialization process, competition is shifting from product competition to R&D, branding and value chains. It is very important to develop projects in this direction. Especially the problems experienced in welding technology education drive the qualified workforce away from the sector. As Gedik Holding and Istanbul Gedik University, we attach great importance to Welding Education, continue our activities at home and abroad and give our support to the projects. Istanbul Gedik University, which is responsible for the international welding industry in the world, will continue to benefit this sector with both its research centers and the projects it produces and its professors who are competent in their fields.

While concluding his speech, Mr. Kesik thanked to Aytaç Uğur YERDEN, PhD lecturer, Project Coordinator of the Virtual Ark,Our Project Partner, Istanbul Directorate of National Education, Maltepe Municipality, Pendik Municipality, Sultanbeyli Municipality, Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR), Shipbuilding Industry Joint Stock Company and all employees involved in the project.

After the opening speech, our Project Manager, PhD lecturer Aytaç Uğur YERDEN, gave information about the aims, main activities, target audience, project team and affiliates of the Virtual Arc Project.

Through the virtualization of the first phase of welding application trainings The Virtual Arc Project has been a pioneering project about Preventing financial losses that may occur due to inexperience during training, on the reduction of energy consumption and carbon footprint. After presentation of this topics, virtual welding training was held with Meta Quest 2 virtual reality glasses.

Virtual Reality Glasses which is preventing material and moral risks in every environment including underwater and enables students to receive welding training in a safer environment was shown to the participating guests practically.
