Message from the Director

As a result of rapid transformations in global dynamics, the Asia-Pacific region is positioned at the center of economic and political power shifts. This region not only hosts some of the world’s fastest-growing economies but also lies at the crossroads of critical trade routes due to its geostrategic location. In this context, the significance of the Asia-Pacific in the global arena extends beyond its economic growth and development potential; it also stands out for its strategic importance and influence within the international system.

The Asia-Pacific region contributes significantly to the global economy by accounting for a substantial share of world trade volume and production capacity. Beyond this, the region plays a key role in reshaping the international system, holds a central position in the global security agenda, and leads the development of multilateral cooperation mechanisms through increasing diplomatic initiatives. This strategic position and diplomatic activism make the Asia-Pacific a decisive actor in global governance processes.

Turkey’s “Asia Anew” initiative represents a strategic approach aimed at deepening economic and political relations with the Asia-Pacific region. In parallel with the region’s growing economic and political significance, this initiative seeks not only to enhance trade and investment relations but also to strengthen cooperation on regional stability and security issues.

In line with this vision, the Istanbul Gedik University Asia-Pacific Strategic Research Center aims to develop strategic analyses and policies that will contribute to regional peace, security, and prosperity. The center operates with an approach that seeks to deeply understand the dynamics of the Asia-Pacific region and integrate this knowledge into national and international policy-making processes. These efforts will further strengthen Turkey’s relations with the region and contribute to the promotion of global peace and stability.
